Redundancy Payments & Notice Periods

To be eligible for redundancy payment an employee must meet the following criteria:

  1. Be aged over 16.
  2. Be in employment which is insurable under the Social Welfare Acts. Full time employees under age 66 must be paying Class A PRSI (this does not apply to part time workers).
  3. You must have worked continuously for your employer for at least 104 weeks (aged over 16).
  4. You must be made redundant.

An Employer must give notice of the redundancy. This period is dependent on how long the employee worked for them –

13 weeks to 2 year 1 week
2 to 5 years 2 weeks
5 to 10 years 4 weeks
10 to 15 years 6 weeks
Over 15 years 8 weeks
