A number of High Court actions taken in the last twelve months have seen Plaintiff’s being awarded sums in excess of €100,000.00 for personal injuries sustained from being bitten or attacked by dogs. In one such case presided over by Mr Justice Barr in July 2017 damages of €235,000 were awarded to the Plaintiff who was attacked whilst walking on the country road near her own home. The award included compensation for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder following ‘a prolonged and very frightening’ attack by two Boxer dogs. A six year old boy was recently awarded €105,000 for an attack leaving him with facial scarring by a Jack Russell. This claim was taken on his behalf by his Mother.
